Both the VA and Texas Veteran Loan programs have additional benefits for disabled Veterans. Most disabled Vets who’s condition was caused by injuries while in service are likely eligible for VA mortgages, even if they did not serve the minimum required days for war or peace time on active duty.
These benefits are generally available to disabled Veterans as indicated, as well as un-married surviving spouses of an otherwise eligible Veteran who died as the result of service or service-connected injuries.
VA Loan Benefits for Disabled Veterans
- Veterans with a 10% or greater service connected disability rating are exempt from the VA funding fee
Texas Veteran Loan Benefits for Disabled Veterans
- As with VA, veterans with 10% or greater service connected disability rating are exempt from the VA funding fee when the loan is underwritten as a VA Loan.
- Veterans with a 30% or greater service connected disability rating receive an interest rate discount of an additional ½% (0.5%) from the already excellent Texas Vet Loan rates.
Additional Benefits
In addition to these benefits offered through the loan programs, there are other housing related benefits for Texas Vets:
- Disabled Veterans may be eligible to apply for Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) grants for modifications to temporary or permanent residences. For more information on SAH grants click this link to the Department of Veterans Affairs website.
- Veterans living in Texas who receive disability compensation from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs may be eligible for a property tax exemption on part or all value of their home. Please visit this page for more information on property tax exemptions for Veterans
